Hello! Meet Brazilian student Ana Hummes Ota. She had been to five schools in four countries before she arrived at Mont’Kiara International School for Grade 9 – one week late.
Her parents had sent her to another school in KL but it just didn’t suit. When the family visited M’KIS, she grabbed her mum’s hand and exclaimed: “This! This is the school that I want to come to!”
This is Ana’s story that traces her journey to New York University, where she is currently doing her degree in film and television production:
“There was a schedule clash for drama and football and I didn’t want to give up on either. So I talked to my teachers and they figured out a schedule just for me. That was amazing!”
And I was still a straight A student
“The learning had lots of fun social moments. Lots of good memories studying and hanging out with friends.”
“We pushed each other to study and the teachers were so involved. If it was exam time, one of us would bring a notebook to the canteen and all of us would huddle around with cups of coffee.”
These illustrations are drawn by talented Year 11 student Shayona Chatterjee. Her awesome Year 10 Personal Project, The Dreams You Once Had, was written and illustrated by her, and published by M’KIS.
“We’ve lived in Germany, China and now Malaysia, and I speak with
experience when I say M’KIS ticked all my boxes for a superior
international school. It is a well-run smaller school filled with warmth
and positivity.
It offers a highly respectable IB programme, multi-nationality students and expat teachers who really know what IB is about.
But what matters most is my children’s journey over the
past seven years. They experienced many positive and even life-changing
instances. They learnt, questioned and grew in a beautiful and enabling
safe space.
I am also proud to have contributed as a parent
representative in the school. We really love M’KIS. It will always hold a
very special place in all our hearts.”

Mont'Kiara International School (M’KIS) is a close-knit community school which prioritizes personalized attention, excellence and inclusion. Here, every child is a name, not a number. The school, which offers Pre-K to Grade 12, embodies the true spirit of an international school with students from over 55 nationalities and a dynamic expatriate teaching staff.
Matthew Boomhower
Elementary School Principal
“What makes Mont’Kiara International School so special? I would say
two things: our curriculum and our close-knit, supportive community.
We are proud to be an International Baccalaureate
World School – that means we offer the IB programme from preschool all
the way to Grade 12 – and we focus on 21st century learning and
international-mindedness.
Our teachers come from all over the world and are trained to deliver the IB Primary Years Programme with fidelity.”
Kevin RiTchlin
Middle & High School Principal
“At
Mont’Kiara International School, we care deeply about the social and
emotional health and well-being of our students. As principal, I know
all my students by their first names and get to know them.
We have a first-rate academic program – the
International Baccalaureate – a diverse and challenging curriculum that
allows our students to access the world’s finest universities.
Our counselling, teaching and community allow
students to explore their areas of interests and passions as learners –
whether in the arts, sciences, mathematics, humanities or languages –
and we are here to support our students every step of the way.”
Candace-Louise Crosbie
Head of Admissions
“Mont’Kiara
International School is very welcoming, inclusive, and accepting of
different types of students; this really goes to the heart of the
International Baccalaureate program.
Because there are so many different subjects and
opportunities for students to explore their passions, they’re able to
find their strengths and their own unique pathways.
Every child is different. We need to help them
find what reaches them, what they’re good at, what their strengths are,
and you can only do that by offering a variety of subjects and
methodologies in teaching. If you have only exams, some kids don’t do
well at that, so you need to have projects and different ways for them
to express their own unique intelligences… and the IB program does that
very, very well.”
